Shining the spotlight on shea butter
Shea butter is an ingredient we put in our Body Butter, Baby Moisturiser, Body Lotion, Extra Moisturising Body Lotion, Light Moisturising Lotion, our Light Moisturising Hand Cream and Extra Moisturising Hand Cream.
It nourishes and nurtures our skin, and with so many potential benefits we’re happy to use it a range of our personal care products. Among these possible benefits are help for skin irritations and damage, because it’s rich in antioxidants like vitamin E, and nutrients like vitamin A.
One of our customers has told us our body butter helped keep their skin elasticised, and that our hand cream was beneficial in repairing their dry skin. Another customer said it worked well for their baby who’s an eczema sufferer.
Shea butter is what’s known as an emollient – emollients are moisturisers that help skin repair and regenerate. Shea butter comes from the nut of the African shea tree – it’s a fat which is also edible.
As well as the potential benefits for our skin, there’s are plus points for the planet, according to the Environmental Working Group. The EWG rates it a low health hazard – and the Domestic Substance List in Canada doesn’t expect it to be potentially toxic or harmful to people or the environment.
We also like the fact it’s biodegradable and can be used with septic tanks and greywater.
