ecostore voted one of the best at the 2013 Unpackit Awards

The Unpackit Awards are a great initiative in terms of raising awareness of the issue of packaging waste. They do this by getting people to vote for the best and worst packaging from a waste perspective, providing direct feedback to the companies that they want to support and to those they’d like to do better in this area. An impressive 15,642 voters helped decide the winners and losers this year.

Launched in 2010, the Awards are run by Wanaka Wastebusters, a community enterprise whose work includes recycling, reuse and education for sustainability services.

Unpackit Award Winner 3rd place for ecostore

This year, ecostore won third place in the Unpackit Awards by offering refills and bulk sizes. Gina Dempster, a spokesperson for the Unpackit Awards, had these kind words to say about us,

ecostore really deserve the recognition for the commitment and care they put into the packaging of their whole range,” said Ms Dempster. Their packaging really lives up to their environmentally friendly products, and we’ve noticed throughout the three years we’ve been running the Unpackit Awards that consumers are really looking for that.

You can find out more about who got best & worst packaging on the Scoop News website or on NewsTalkZB.

While it’s great to have done so well with our refills and bulk sizes, we are always looking for ways to improve, as CEO and Founder Malcolm Rands says,

Plastics in particular are a global waste problem, and as you know, single use plastics are the worst which is why it’s so important to us to encourage our customers to buy bulk sizes of our products or to take their empty ecostore bottles in to their nearest health food store to be refilled. We also concentrate our products so that they last longer, and people will get more use out of them. We collect empty ecostore bottles and send them to our manufacturer to be reground into pellets for reuse. The plastic scoops that you’ll find inside our laundry powder products are actually made from 100% regrind. There are some exciting new developments in this area which we’re looking to implement as soon as we practically can - so watch this space. - Malcolm Rands

We’d like to congratulate the companies that did well at the awards and say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for us. For a complete list of nationwide stores which currently offer ecostore refills click here.

Winners were Rethink, Reusaeable fresh produce bags, then Chelsea White Sugar and then ecostore Refills and bulk sizes
