The good stuff: Jojoba in the spotlight

Rich in vitamins and antioxidants, jojoba can work really well for people with dry skin, moisturising it and balancing the production of skin oil.

We use jojoba in our Body Lotion, Baby Moisturiser and Hand Cream and although it’s referred to as jojoba oil, it’s actually a wax that closely resembles the oils naturally made by our skin. With fatty acids, along with vitamins E, A and D, it can be used as a cleanser as well as a nourishing moisturiser not just for the skin, but also for hair, nail cuticles and lips.

It also contains mystiric acid, which has anti-inflammatory properties, and can be used to remove makeup. It might also benefit people with acne, psoriasis and sunburn, according to some clinicians.

One of our customers told us our hand cream aborbed easily into her skin, something she found important because of all the ways she used her hands to care for her daughter, that could also de-moisturise her skin.

As you’ll see on our website, jojoba’s botanical name is simmondsia chinnensis and it’s safe to use with greywater and septic tanks. It’s also biodegradable.

Our website can also link you to what the Environmental Working Group has to say about jojoba.

It comes from the deserts of California, Arizona and Mexico and is a substance that’s pressed from the jojoba tree nut.
